Minimal Invasive Surgery in infertility is done using an instrument called Endoscope which is inserted to examine the reproductive organs for diseases or infections. The two frequently carried out endoscopy procedures are hysteroscopy and laparoscopy.
1. Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is an endoscopic procedure to visualize the cervical canal and the inner of the uterus using a hysteroscope which is inserted through the vagina. It can be used as a diagnostic tool for biopsy and as a therapeutic tool for the removal of polyps, fibroids, or adhesions.
2. Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy is performed to check tubal patency by transcervical injection of methylene blue dye, to look for adhesions and ovarian masses. It is done under general anesthesia. Certain abnormalities such as like salpingectomy, ovarian cystectomy, lysis of adhesions, cauterization of endometriotic implants are treated at the time of the diagnostic procedure itself.
